Ambassador Wells recently visited Aqaba, where she focused on economic development, entrepreneurship and job creation, and how the U.S. government can help support the development of a key driver of Jordan’s future. During the visit, the Ambassador met with officials and toured development sites that could bring over $20 billion in direct investment to Jordan, and could create more than 20,000 local jobs. The meetings included the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority, the Ayla development, the Marsa Zayed development and the work sites for the new Aqaba port and Liquified Natural Gas facilities.
In addition, the Ambassador met with H.E. Governor Fawaz Irshiedat, visited a women’s health clinic, a business incubator program under the Queen Noor Foundation, the SOS Children’s Village, and met with a diverse group of alumni from U.S. Embassy-sponsored exchange programs.
