Fortune/State Department Global Women’s Mentoring Partnership

The program is a dynamic public-private partnership which offers a significant opportunity for emerging international women leaders to be mentored by top U.S. women executives, and develop their management and business skills while gaining experience in the U.S. business and non-profit environment. Each participant will have the opportunity to shadow senior executives in their mentoring company and engage in activities specifically designed by the company to meet the needs and interests of the participant. Participants will be fully funded by the Department of State and Fortune 500.

The 2015 program includes a four-day orientation and leadership and skills training component (Tuesday, April 28 – Friday, May 1) in Washington, D.C., a two-week mentorship assignment (Monday, May 4 – Friday, May 15), and a two-day communications training and debriefing (Monday, May 18 – Tuesday, May 19) in New York City.  The D.C. program will include meetings with USG officials, academics, and representatives of business associations.  Following the D.C. orientation, the participants will travel individually to their company’s location, where a Fortune Most Powerful Woman and her team will mentor the participant.  Each participant will have the opportunity to shadow senior executives in their mentoring company and engage in activities specifically designed by the company to meet the needs and interests of the participant.  The final component will be a two-day debriefing in New York City, where participants will receive communication training, evaluate their mentorship experiences, and develop follow-up activities.

Eligible applicants are emerging women leaders between the ages of 25 and 43 who are most likely to reach the top levels of their business or NGO sector. They must have a very good command of English, including business-related terms, and be able to converse freely in English. Applicants can include women who run their own businesses, work in middle/middle-upper management for a non-US based corporation, or women who run business associations, foundations or non-governmental organizations. Individuals who work for Fortune 500 companies abroad are not eligible.
