U.S. Embassy Amman wishes to distribute this Security Message from U.S. Consulate General Jerusalem to U.S. citizens in Jordan.
United States Consulate General Jerusalem
July 24, 2017
Due to ongoing tensions and the potential for clashes in and around the Old City, the restriction on U.S. government employees and their family members from entering the Old City is extended again until Monday, July 31 at 9:00 am, without prior approval from the U.S. Consulate General. This restriction includes the immediate vicinity of the Old City gates. We recommend that private U.S. citizens take into consideration these restrictions and the additional guidance contained in the Department of State’s travel warning for Israel, Jerusalem and the West Bank when making decisions regarding their travel in the Old City and in Jerusalem.
Note: The time stamp on this e-mail message may reflect Washington, D.C. time, which may differ from local time.
We strongly recommend that U.S. citizens traveling to or residing in Jerusalem, the West Bank, and Gaza enroll in the Department of State’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP). STEP enrollment gives you the latest security updates, and makes it easier for the U.S. embassy or nearest U.S. consulate to contact you in an emergency. If you don’t have Internet access, enroll directly with the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate.
Regularly monitor the State Department’s website, where you can find current Travel Warnings (including the Travel Warning for Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza), Travel Alerts, and the Worldwide Caution. Read the Country Specific Information for Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza. For additional information, refer to “Traveler’s Checklist” on the State Department’s website.
