A recent anonymous posting on a Jihadist website encouraged attacks against American and other international schools in the Middle East, including western teachers employed at these schools. That message referenced schools in the localities of Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) and Maadi (Egypt) as examples, and these two cities as locations with high concentrations of potential targets. The U.S. Embassy is unaware of any specific, credible threat against any school or individual in Jordan. Nonetheless, the Embassy is working with local schools identified with the United States to review their security posture. U.S. citizens residing in or visiting Jordan should remain vigilant regarding their personal security and alert to local security developments.
The Embassy advises U.S. citizens to maintain valid travel documents and enroll with the Department of State through the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program. By enrolling, U.S. citizens make it easier for the Embassy to contact them in case of emergency.
The U.S. Embassy in Amman is located on Al-Umawiyyeen Street, Abdoun, P.O. Box 354. The telephone number is (6) 590-6000, and the fax number is (6) 592-4102. The after-hours emergency telephone number is (6) 590-6500.
