Aqaba- U.S. Ambassador Stuart E. Jones travelled to Aqaba on July 15 to discuss economic development plans for the region with Jordanian public and private sector officials. Ambassador Jones’ trip to Aqaba follows a successful “Invest in Aqaba” delegation visit to the United States in June. During this mission, eleven Aqaba-based officials visited New York, Washington, and Baltimore to discuss investment opportunities, establish connections with leading U.S. tour agencies, and share best practices with port and urban development officials.
On his visit to Aqaba, Ambassador Jones discussed with the “Invest in Aqaba” delegation strategies to build momentum from their U.S. visit, and talked about the importance of the trade mission to developing Aqaba’s economy.
Ambassador Jones also noted that the U.S. is proud of its partnership with Jordan, and he stressed the importance of the U.S-Jordanian economic relations which both countries benefit from, including the Free Trade Agreement. He added that Jordan can be used as a spring board for trade in the region, noting that U.S. investors are very interested in new opportunities in Aqaba: supporting the tourism sector there, developing its economy and creating new job opportunities.
