U.S. Ambassador Visits Zarqa

Zarqa – U.S. Ambassador Alice G. Wells visited Zarqa today and met Governorate public officials including the Governor, Mr. Adel Rousan, to discuss issues of common interest as well as identify opportunities and mitigate challenges faced by the people of Zarqa.

During her trip, Ambassador Wells visited the King Abdullah II School for Excellence and participated in an English language Access Program class with 20 students.  “These young women were remarkable.  I particularly enjoyed hearing how the Access program has not only helped them with English, but also helped them develop into strong, confident, examples to their peers,” said Wells.

The Ambassador also participated in a roundtable discussion with MicroFund for Women, an NGO that empowers women through small loans, training, and mentoring to achieve prosperity.  The women entrepreneurs shared their success stories with the Ambassador and showed her an exhibit of their handiwork.

Before she concluded her visit, Ambassador Wells visited the Zarqa Chamber of Industry and met with the Chairman and members of the board to explore ways to increase bilateral trade opportunities under the U.S.-Jordan Free Trade Agreement.
